We leave behind a sparked interest and pride in their regional food culture

Three Year Project with Museum Lolland Falster Coming To An End

May 24, 2023

After three years, the beloved project with Museum Lolland Falster is coming to an end. Together, we explored the taste of Lolland Falster - a unique culinary identity with many stories to tell. The project took many shapes, from teaching materials to events, producer tours, and podcast episodes. We leave behind a strengthened sense of community and local pride in the region of Lolland Falster.

Denmark might be small, but it still offers a huge diversity of food cultures. This became particularly clear through this research project. Lolland Falster is gifted with great conditions for farming due to its unique soil and strategic location in the Baltic Sea.

The project aimed to spark a culinary curiosity in Lolland Falster’s food culture. We designed educational materials and events for the islands’ public schools and the chef school. Theory is best when it is mixed with practice. So we always included touch, smell, and taste in the materials.

We designed multiple events. For example, they were about their unique soil, the hunting traditions, wild plants, coastal food, fruit and conservation, and the Christmas traditions. Students learned about the impact of past generations on their food.

Food has a beautiful ability to bring people together. Through our producer tours, we have proudly connected local producers, such as fruit cultivators and pig farms, with chefs. They too are proud, continuig to carry forward the region's history.

We want to give our biggest thanks to all involved parties. The three-year project of EGN Lolland Falster would not have happened without the generous support from Nordea-fonden, who supports activities that promote health, nature, and culture, in particular, that strengthen communities. We also want to thank Museum Lolland Falster and CELF for a brilliant collaboration.

Should we collaborate on a similar project with you? We would love to dive deep into more regional food cultures. If you want to explore the gastronomical history and taste of your region, reach out!
